Inher career Lillian has competed throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and the South as well as internationally in Ireland and England. She has successfully completed the Kentucky Rolex CCI**** first in 2015 with Share Option and then in 2016 and 2017 with two horses LCC Barnaby and Share Option. This last year she finished 13th and 15th on her two rides! Lillian has been able to train with top coaches in the sport of eventing, dressage, and showjumping. Lillian is also a level III certified instructor in Instructors Certification Program run by the USEA.
Successful competition is the goal of every event rider, and Lillian is no different. She is constantly seeking to improve her own skills as well as those of her horses while being ever mindful of the intensive care each needs. Lillian’s goals are simple. She wants to compete and she wants to win. Most of all, she wants to train her horses to reach their full potential as the talented athletes they are.
Lillian began her riding career at the age of seven with a stalwart Appaloosa aptly named “Bucky.” Her career really got rolling with her next horse Motto when she spent more time on the ground looking up at him than properly seated on his back! Not to be deterred, Lillian trained with local trainers, competed in Pony Club rallies, and began working with internationally ranked rider Jan Byyny. Lillian worked and trained with Jan throughout her college career at University of Virginia. During college Lillian traveled to Aiken, South Carolina training her own horses as well as working on Jan’s Surefire Event team. Lillian had the opportunity to work with Silva Martin in Wellington, Florida for the winter season. While in Wellington, Lillian trained with Silva in dressage, getting dressage show experience for Share Option, and worked with Katie Prudent in the Showjump ring where Share Option’s potential really became obvious. Upon returning north, Lillian joined Windurra Stables and trained with international event rider, Boyd Martin, and Silva Martin. Lillian worked as a groom and rider for Boyd and Silva for many years.
Lillian also has trained outside of the United States. She was in Ireland for 8 months riding and competing for the world renowned Carol Gee, owner of Fernhill Sporthorses. She competed up through the 2-star level in Ireland and also bought her horse LCC Barnaby there. She then moved to England in hopes of experiencing even more of the international eventing scene. There she rode for and trained with various professionals while competing her new horse Barnaby.
“I have learned an incredible amount riding abroad. I am a different rider and a different competitor now. I have spent more time than most young professionals in the ‘learning phase’ of my career before I decided to go out on my own. You have to understand though that there are a million different ways to be successful with horses and I was not satisfied just knowing how one or two people have gotten to the top. Good riding comes in all different shapes and sizes and I can bring all of these different techniques into my training regime.”
Currently, Lillian operates out of the Windurra facility in Cochranville, PA. She continues to train with Boyd and Silva Martin as well as other top professionals in the US and Canada. Using the beautiful training facility of Windurra is a huge benefit for her clients, and her equine training program continues to grow as she travels throughout the northeast and southeast to teach clinics, coaching her students to reach their eventing goals. She also rides horses for owners seeking professional experience for their equine athletes so Lillian travels to events throughout the South and the Northeast with her own horses as well as horses in training. She brings along her students in order to give them the professional guidance they need through the eventing process.
